Ohio Southern led by six points with 1:20 to play in regulation only to have the University of Rio Grande Redmen rally to tie the game at 76-76 and for an overtime.

Jeremy May then scored 8 points and Nathan Copas 4 as Rio Grande beat the upset-minded Trailblazers 92-83 in overtime Tuesday in the consolation game of the Shawnee State Invitational Tournament

In the championship game, Taylor University beat host Shawnee State 63-60 to win the tournament.

Andrew Stevens knocked down a game-high 34 points to pace the Trailblazers. Derek Combs had 16 points, Momir Gajic scored 12, C. J. Captain 11 points and five assists, and Maurice Creel 11 rebounds and five assists.

May finished with 30 points to lead Rio Grande. Chris Beard netted 24 and Nathan Copas scored 12. Justin Blackstone had six rebounds and Copas four assists to aid the URG offense.

Rio Grande took a 36-32 halftime lead as Beard scored 16 points and May 12. Stevens erupted for 17 points the first half to keep OUSC close.

Gajic had all 12 of his points the second half to lead a surge that gave Ohio Southern the lead. Combs and Captain had 7 points each in the half while Stevens scored 14 on his own.

Combs and Stevens combined for all of Ohio Southern’s points in overtime.

OUSC, 6-11, will host Temple Baptist at 7 p.m. Thursday.
