The board of First Federal Bancorp Inc., has declared a quarterly dividend on the common stock of 7 cents per share payable March 27 to shareholders of record on March 13.

First Federal Bancorp is a savings and loan holding company, which owns all the capital stock of First Federal Savings bank of Ironton, a federally chartered savings bank which conducts business from its main office in Ironton and a branch office in Proctorville.

At Dec. 31, 1999, the company had 465.8 million of total consolidated assets, 456.5 million of total consolidated liabilities and 49.3 million of total stockholders’ equity.

Pepsi is launching FruitWorks, a light-tasting, non-carbonated juice drink with as much as 5 percent fruit juice, at area grocery stores.

Each 8-ounce serving of FruitWorks has 100 percent of the daily recommended allowance of vitamin C and at least 20 percent select B vitamins, no caffeine and is available in 20-ounce plastic bottles.

FruitWorks comes in five natural fruit flavors: apple raspberry, peach papaya, pink lemonade, strawberry melon and tangerine citrus.

The product made its test market debut in 1997 in Baltimore and Hawaii, and it now has been expanded to include 30 percent of the country during the past two years.

Broadly targeted to teens and young adults, FruitWorks is geared to consumers who want a better-for-you refreshment beverage, said company spokesmen.

According to the Pepsi officials, the fruit drink category is poised for tremendous growth.

Firstar Bank will honor its frontline employees by celebrating "Teller/Sales Associate Appreciation Week" beginning Monday, March 6.

As part of the celebration, each Firstar location will have balloons and signage alerting customers to the special observance. Customers are encouraged to participate in the week-long celebration by simply letting their teller know that his or her hard work is appreciated.

Variable changes in personnel levels are expected in the Ironton-Ashland, Ky., area this spring, according to the latest poll of businesses’ workforce plans, released this week by Manpower Inc.

Of companies responding to the second-quarter employment outlook survey, 17 percent will recruit more workers during April, May and June, while 13 percent expect to cut back and 70 percent report no changes are anticipated.

For the same period last year, 30 percent forecast adding staff and non predicted workforce reductions. Three months ago, prospects were weaker when 10 percent projected more hires, while 20 percent indicated employment levels would decrease.

Workforce additions appear best in construction, wholesale/retail trade and services. Some reductions are expected in non-durable goods manufacturing and finance/insurance/real estate. Mixed readings come from durable goods manufacturing.
