"They jumped on us right away and then I think they may have let up a bit. We got back in it late, but we played awful the first couple of innings," Fairland coach Roger Snyder said.

South Point (6-2, 3-1 OVC) erupted for six runs in the first inning.

Justin Eaches walked, moved up on a passed ball, and scored on Jarod Waggoner’s double. B. J. Belville doubled home a run and Jamie Douglas singled in a run.

An error in the outfield off the bat of Dick Weaver scored Douglas. Jarred Perdue walked, and Brian Cremeans’ line drive was misplayed into an error as two runs scored.

Belville homered after a walk to Panell to give South Point its final two runs in the second.

Fairland got a run in the third when Ryan Boso doubled and Kyle Leadmon singled.

The Dragons came back with three runs in the fourth.

J. W. Jones reached on an error, Josh Dunfee walked, a fielder’s choice, Boso walked, and Jeremy Louden slugged a three-run double.

Two more runs came across in the sixth to cap the scoring.

Tim Adkins had a base hit, Boso was safe on an error, Louden walked, and Leadmon had a two-run single.

Patrick Panell went the first five innings to get the win, striking out nine and walking five. K. C. Jones, the first of three Fairland pitchers, took the loss.

Despite the loss, Snyder was saw a few bright spots.

"Dunfee looked good the last three innings. He had six strikeouts and kept them scoreless, so maybe we found us a pitcher," said Snyder.

Fairland, 3-3 and 0-2, hosts Coal Grove Wednesday.
