PEDRO – Fairland coach Jim Bailey expected a tight race, and that’s just what it is.
And Fairland tightened things up Friday with a 4-1 Ohio Valley Conference win over the Rock Hill Redwomen.
"I knew the league race would come down to this. It’s going to be tight," Bailey said.
Fairland is 11-3 overall and is now tied with Chesapeake for first in the OVC at 6-2. Rock Hill fell to 5-9 on the season.
The Lady Dragons got all the runs they needed with three in the third.
Chrisa Hayes singled with one out, Jennifer Jones had a bunt single, and, after a fly out, Brooke Fisher triple in both runners.
Jeana Diamond followed with a run-scoring single to cap the rally.
Rock Hill scored a run in the bottom of the inning when Alisha Qualls reached on an error, stole second, went to third on a passed ball, and Jamie Skaggs was safe on an error as Qualls raced home.
Fairland got the run back in the seventh.
Jessica Phillips led off with a base hit, stole second, and two outs later Maggie Staggs was safe on an error as Phillips scored.
Diamond was 3-4, Fisher 2-for-3, and Maggie Staggs 2-4 as Fairland got 10 hits.

Mohawk Classic
McDERMOTT – The Fairland Lady Dragons split a pair of games in the Mohawk Classic Saturday.
The Lady Dragons lost 3-2 to host Northwest in the first game that lasted 12 innings. Heather Bradbury got the win as she struck out 10 and walked two in going the distance.
Freshman Jessica Mann went the entire game for Fairland as she fanned eight and walked three. She gave up 11 hits.
In the second game, Fairland bounced back and whipped Peebles 7-1 behind the combined pitching of JoAnn Harmon and Chrisa Hayes as they allowed just two singles between them.
The Lady Dragons had just four hits as Jessica Phillips, Brooke Fisher, Lori Estep, and Carol Belvin all went 1-2.
Fairland, 12-4, plays at Coal Grove Monday.
