Today is Mother’s Day.

However, not everyone is qualified to be a mother. Being a mom takes more than just bringing a child into the world.

A true mother is there when the first tooth comes in and when the first knee is skinned.

She knows what to say when the bully won’t leave you alone and is ready with Kool Aid when your friends come over to play.

As you get older, your mother, if you are a daughter, becomes your confidante, someone to ask about dating and to advise you on other choices of life.

She is also probably the first one you tell when you find the man of your dreams – even if he turns out to be a goon.

If you are a son, your mother is the person you turn to for advice on cooking and what to buy your girlfriend for Christmas.

She is also the one to whom you mouth "Hi" if you ever get a chance to be on television.

And she is probably the first one you tell when you find the girl of your dreams – even if she turns out to be a goon.

A mother is someone with whom you share your dreams and fears.

She takes great joy in the person you are becoming and helps keep your memories for you as you grow into an adult.

And, best of all, she will probably cry on your wedding day – not from unhappiness.

Because a true mother knows that no matter what you do, whom you become or where your life takes you – you will always be her special child.

Mothers give you more than just your life; they give you wings.

Today, on Mother’s Day, pause to remember all that your mother has given you.

Then, thank her for giving you the freedom to be who you are and to where you need to go. Thank her for teaching you confidence and love.

Then, tell her no matter where you go or who you become – she will always be your mother.

She will understand.
