After months of uncertainty and a few weeks of unrest in the city, the time has finally arrived – the Ironton City School District is within a whisker of signing coaches Bob Lutz and Mike Burcham.

And, that means, it is time for the Ironton Board of Education to close the deal.

No matter how you feel about the issue – pro or con – there is no denying that this has not been healthy for the community. After all, fighting never really benefits anyone. The finger-pointing and protests have done some damage.

The community has spoken; it wants the two coaches to remain at Ironton High. And, to be fair, Ironton’s teachers seem to feel the same way. So, there doesn’t seem to be a reason not to move forward, and quickly.

Ironton is lucky to have two men who are so dedicated to maintaining a championship caliber football program in the city and so many teachers working so hard to provide a quality education to the city’s students. Both groups are working for the same reason – to help the children of Ironton. There are no cross purposes here.

So, therefore, the time to argue has passed. Now, it is time to get the job done and to get back to being one of the top school districts – and communities – in the area.

After all, that is what is best for the community – and the children.
