FRANKFORT, Ky. — P.J. Rase has two award-winning point averages.
The Rio Grande RedStorm senior walked away with two honors at the Mid-South Conference all-league banquet Thursday at the Capital Plaza Hotel.
Rase is the RedStorm leading scorer at 16.57 points per game. Those numbers earned him honorable mention on the All-Mid-South team.
Rase also carries better than a 3.25 grade point average that earned the 6-foot-2 guard MSC All-Academic honors.
This is the first season Rio Grande has been a member of the Mid-South Conference. In the All-American Mideast Conference last year, Rase was all-AMC and an NAIA Scholar Athlete.
The awards capped an outstanding season for the former Chesapeake Panthers’ All-Ohio standout.
While the RedStorm was just 5-25 this season and 0-14 in the conference, Rase led the nation in free throw percentage. He made 103-of-109 foul shots for 94.5 percent.
He was also sixth in 3-point goals made with 92, seventh in 3-pointers made per game, and 19th in 3-point field goal percentage at 43.4.
Rio Grande plays in the NAIA tournament at 10 a.m. Friday against MSC regular season champion Campbellsville. Stretch Internet will carry the play-by-play action beginning at 9:45 a.m.
