CHESHIRE – Symmes Valley Vikings coach Rusty Webb couldn’t ask any more of his pitchers. The same couldn’t be said of his hitters.

The Vikings offense struggled and wasted the combined pitching effort of Joseph Patterson and Michael Roth in a 3-2 loss to the River Valley Raiders Thursday.

"Patterson and Roth both threw very, very well. We couldn’t have asked for any more from them," Webb said.

"We played well enough to win, we just didn’t hit well and we had too many errors. We need to be more mentally focused in the field and we need to be more disciplined at the plate."

The Vikings took a 1-0 lead in the top of the third inning.

Billy McCarty singled, stole second, and scored when Justin Myers was safe on a dropped fly ball.

River Valley took the lead with two runs in the bottom of the inning.

Nolan and Marcum walked, moved up on an error, and scored on a two-hit hit by Baker.

Symmes Valley tied the game in the sixth.

Myers was safe on a two-base error and scored when Adam Corn lined an RBI single.

River Valley scored the winning run in the bottom of the seventh.

Nolan walked, and Theavenir was safe on an error to put runners on the corner. Marcum then reached when his shallow fly ball was dropped.

The Vikings, 0-2, host Green at 4:30 p.m. Friday in a Southern Ohio Conference game.
