STEUBENVILLE – A man accused of assaulting an Ohio State Highway Patrol trooper and stealing the officer’s gun is still on the loose and the OSHP is requesting information into the man’s whereabouts.

The assault on southbound State Route 7 at University Boulevard in Jefferson County at 3:44 a.m. Sunday. Police are looking for Lawrence Lamont Comb who also goes by the nickname "Mustard." Comb is a black male, approximately 5-foot-10 and weighs between 180 and 200 pounds. He has a bald head and light facial hair. Comb may be driving a green Toyota Camry or Corolla with West Virginia license plates. He is considered to be armed and dangerous.

On Sunday at 3:44 a.m., a trooper from the Patrol’s Steubenville post stopped Comb for a traffic violation which led to the officer placing Comb under arrest for driving under suspension. As Comb was being secured, he assaulted the trooper and then took his service weapon.

Comb then fled into Steubenville, where he abandoned the vehicle in the LaBelle Heights area. Anyone with information on this case is urged to call (740) 264-1641.
