COLUMBUS – Big field, big talent.
The inexperienced Ironton Fighting Tigers golf team joined a talented 24-team field at the St. Charles Invitational Saturday and placed 20th overall.
Cleveland St. Ignatius won the event with a 294 team score while Dublin Coffman was second at 297. Ironton had a 332 score.
Individually, Ironton was led by Andy Brown who shot a 7-over par 77. Michael McGraw was next with an 83, Joe Crabtree shot an 85, Zack Christian had an 87, and Jeff Parnell carded a 92.
"We didn’t play very well as you can see by the scores, and you can’t do that against a very strong field," Ironton coach Bill Washburn said. "We need a lot more work. We seem to be a little stagnant right now. We need to improve."
Ironton returns to action Tuesday at Shawnee State Park Golf Course against Lucasville Valley and South Webster.
