HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – A bomb threat called into the federal courthouse in Huntington caused federal officers to clear the building.

Ed Mitman, acting U.S. Marshal based in Charleston, said an employee received a call around 11 a.m. The caller stated a bomb was in the building. The U.S. Marshal’s office cleared the building in order to search the facility.

The West Virginia State Police-Huntington detachment brought a bomb-sniffing dog and searched the building along with federal agents. No bombs were detected in the building.

Mitman said he wasn’t at liberty to discuss further details of the investigation. He added the Federal Bureau of Investigation was going to assist in the case.

The federal building is located at 845 Fifth Ave., across the street from the Cabell County Courthouse. The federal courthouse is a part of a complex of federal buildings. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and the Internal Revenue Service has offices adjacent to the federal courthouse.
