All-Ohio selections honor 10 area grid players

COLUMBUS – Now everyone knows what fans locally already knew. These are some of the best players in the state.
There were 10 local players named to the Associated Press Division V and Division VI All-Ohio football teams Wednesday.
Also, Wheelersburg had three players honored.
The Chesapeake Panthers senior linebacker Jesse Ansell (6-0, 200) and senior offensive tackle Eric Myers (6-1, 220) were special mention All-Ohio.
Coal Grove senior defensive back Shaun Smith (5-8, 153) was also named to the special mention list.
Wheelersburg’s 6-2, 225-pound senior linebacker Boyd Bailey, the Southeast district Defensive Player of the Year, was a first team defensive selection.
Pirate senior defensive back Dustin Winebrenner and senior lineman Ryan Hickman were special mention.
Oak Hill’s junior quarterback Tom Triplett was All-Ohio special mention. Triplett is the son of head coach Merril Triplett who played for the 1973 Ironton state runner-up team.
Bedford St. Peter Chanel had the Defensive Player of the Year in Kyle Hoogenboom while teammate Anthony Franklin and Cincinnati Reading’s DeShawn Wynn shared the top offensive award.
The Coach of the Year honor was shared by Smithville’s Keith Schrock and Summit Station Licking Heights Bill Griffin.
In Division VI, the Symmes Valley Vikings landed four players on the All-Ohio special mention list.
Senior linebacker Jarod Leffingwell (6-1, 180), senior defensive back Billy McCarty (5-9,1 65), senior center Kent Shipley (6-2, 220) and junior linebacker Joseph Patterson (5-11, 175) were honored.
Green senior running back Brad Bainer (5-10, 185), senior linebacker Jacob Darnell (6-2, 215), and junior defensive back Jimmy Moore (6-1, 155) were named tot he All-Ohio team.
The Division VI Offensive Players of the Year were McComb’s Dusty Aldrich and Williamsburg’s Jason Bainum.
The top defensive player was Jon Raddish of Mogadore while Sycamore Mohawk’s Erik Baker was the Coach of the Year.
