Above, Brett Leonard and his mother, Missy, watch as students at Kingsbury Elementary prepare to launch 200 heart-shaped balloons on Feb. 8 as Mayor Bob Cleary (not pictured) proclaims Feb. 14 Congenital Heart Defect Awareness Day in Ironton. The school also collected pop can tabs to donate to the Ronald McDonald House in honor of Brett. Brett is as playful as any other toddler approaching two years of age, even though his heart condition only allows him to breathe in 79 percent of the oxygen that a child with a normal heart would receive.
