Joseph S. Fletcher, 86, of Ironton died Wednesday at a local health center, after an extended illness.

The Ironton native was born June 19, 1915, the son of the late Howard and Ottie Smith Fletcher.

He was the husband of Alice Vaughn Fletcher, who survives. They were married Sept. 21, 1941.

He was a retired barber, along with his brother, Howard, where they owned and operated Fletcher's Barber Shop for 63 years in Ironton. He was a member and an elder of the First Presbyterian Church of Ironton and a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Army. He was a member of the Lawrence Lodge 198 F&AM of Ironton and the Scottish Rite of Cincinnati.

He also was preceded in death by his brother, Howard Fletcher.

Survivors, in addition to his wife, include one son, Joseph S. Fletcher Jr. of Ironton; one daughter, Janice Cogan of Portsmouth; one grandson, Kenneth Joseph Cogan of South Point; one great-grandson, Kenneth Albert Cogan of South Point; and two sisters, Evelyn Leach and June Eaches, both of Ironton.

Funeral will be 11 a.m. Saturday at First Presbyterian Church, Fifth and Railroad Streets, with the Rev. Harold Demus officiating. Burial will be in Woodland Cemetery. Visitation will be 6-9 p.m. Friday at Tracy Brammer Funeral Home, and one hour before the service at the church. Masonic rites will be held at 7:30 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
