Trooper Paul Isgett deployed "stop sticks" in an attempt to disable the vehicle, but Perry allegedly continued driving west even after the device deflated one of his tires. Authorities say Perry's car at times veered into the eastbound lanes and at one point rammed a patrol car.

Troopers discontinued pursuit for a short time due to the volume of traffic. The Lawrence County Sheriff's Office then engaged in the pursuit, along with officers from the Ironton and Hanging Rock police departments.

According to information from the Ironton Police Department, the pursuit ended when Perry allegedly crashed his vehicle in the vicinity of the Lawrence County animal shelter, and fled on foot. He was apprehended in the vicinity of Muth Lumber Co.
