Joseph Patterson was first team starter the past four seasons for the Symmes Valley Vikings. Now he's on another first team.

Patterson, a 6-foot-1, 195-pound senior, was named Wednesday to the Associated Press Division VI first team defensive unit.

Patterson led the Vikings with 10 quarterback sacks as a defensive end and was second on the team in tackles. He also led a balanced offense in rushing and scoring.

Named special mention All-Ohio were Vikings senior running back Michael Roth (5-8, 175), senior quarterback Drew Hunt (6-1, 175), and senior fullback/defensive end Nathan Pinkerman (5-4, 155).

Green quarterback Jimmy Moore, 6-foot, 170-pound senior, was also chosen special mention All-Ohio.

The Chesapeake Panthers reached the Division V Region 15 finals for the first time in school history and there are four good reasons why: Michael Hunt, Cody Hunt, Zach Waugh, and Todd Marcum.

All four were named special mention All-Ohio by the Associated Press.

Michael Hunt, a 5-10, 180 senior running back, and Cody Hunt, a 5-8, 160-pound junior running back, each gained more than 1,000 yards on the season and each went over 100 yards rushing in the Panthers two playoff wins.

Waugh, a 6-2, 220-pound senior, was the team's best lineman as a two-way tackle while the 5-10, 175-pound Marcum, a senior guard and linebacker, led the team in tackles.

Coal Grove center Josh Childers, a 5-11, 245 senior, was also special mention in Division V while Wheelersburg quarterback Matt Weaver was a second team All-Ohio pick. Weaver was the Southeast District Offensive Player of the Year.

Senior lineman Adam Salyers and placekicker Cody Piquet, both of Wheelersburg, were special mention.

Woodsfield Monroe defensive back Gabe Gordon was not only a first team pick but was Co-Defensive Player of the Year along with Chris Younge of Paint Valley.

Woodsfield's Christopher Wilson, who ran for 1,000 yards in the regular season but had just one net yard against Chesapeake, was a first team selection on offense.

Chesapeake beat Woodsfield 26-7.

Also named special mention was Oak Hill's Tom Triplett, son of Oaks head coach Merril Triplett who played at Ironton.

As expected,Kenton quarterback Benny Mauk was named Mr. Football.

Kenton's game plan is simple: Line up with five wide receivers and let quarterback Mauk go to work.

Mauk racked up numbers like a pin ball machine. So far this year, he's thrown for 6,228 yards and 72 touchdowns and has rushed for 1,252 yards and 15 touchdowns.

Not only that, but he has 17,223 yards and 175 touchdowns for his career, both national records.
