An Ironton woman was taken to the hospital Thursday morning after an automobile accident.

Trooper W.D. Hunter of the Ohio State Highway Patrol said Shirley Moore, 56, was driving a 1993 Chevrolet Cavalier south on State Route 93 near the U.S. 52 interchange at 10:15 a.m. Donald Brown, 68, of Wurtland, Ky., was following behind her in his 1994 Chevrolet van, when Gary Secrist, 53, of Oak Hill, was coming off U.S. 52 East and entered State Route 93 in a 1999 Ford pickup.

Hunter said Secrist failed to yield to a red light, and Moore hit her brakes to avoid striking his vehicle. Brown then hit her car in the rear. Neither Moore's nor Brown's vehicles made contact with Secrist's.

Moore, who complained of back pain but had no lacerations, was transported to Our Lady of Bellefonte Hospital in Russell, Ky., Hunter said. Brown and Secrist were not injured. Moore's and Brown's vehicles both sustained minor damage. Brown was cited for failure to stop within an assured clear distance and Secrist, for failing to yield to a traffic signal.
