Shawn D. Brown, 33, Chesapeake, was charged Friday with driving under the influence, his seventh lifetime offense and his fifth offense within the last six years, after a traffic crash on State Route 243.

Brown allegedly drove left of center and then went off the pavement and over an embankment, causing his car to turn over at least four times. Brown was thrown from the vehicle during the accident. He was taken to St. Mary's Medical Center where he is listed in stable condition.

Brown was also charged with driving under a suspended license, failure to control, no registration and no seat belt.
