A Lawrence County woman is in custody today, charged with trying to print counterfeit money using a computer and a laser printer at her home.
Lawrence County Sheriff Tim Sexton said Rebecca Porter, 28, of 220 Private Drive 183, Ironton, was taken into custody yesterday. She was taken by U.S. Secret Service agents to Cincinnati to face arraignment in federal court.
Sexton said the arrest came after his office got an anonymous tip.
"We received information that two people were trying to print money and place that money in circulation," Sexton said.
A $100 bill was found at Porter's home. The computer and printer were confiscated. Sexton said they do not know if any money was actually used or put into circulation.
Two weapons were also confiscated from the residence.
Authorities continue to look for another person believed to be connected with the incident, but no additional arrests were made as of press time.
