Flyers fall once again to Reedsville Eastern in sectional tournament

McARTHUR -- The third time wasn't the charm.

The Ironton St. Joseph Flyers were playing the Reedsville Eastern Eagles in the Division IV sectional tournament for the third straight season, and for the third straight time the Eagles prevailed.

Eastern used its pressure defense to hand the Flyers an 84-51 setback Saturday night at Vinton County High School.

Chris Laber scored 22 points and had 12 rebounds to lead the Flyers who finished the season 10-11. Shawn Hacker scored 18 points and grabbed 11 rebounds.

Four Eagles were in double figures led by Jason Kimes with 15 points, 12 coming on 3-pointers.

Alex Simpson had 13 points, Cody Dill 12, and Nathan Cozart 10 points.

Eastern jumped in front 23-10 at the end of the first quarter.

St. Joseph slowed the Eagles offense a little in the second quarter but the lead still grew as the Flyers fell behind 40-23 at the break.

Eastern went on a 12-0 run to start the second half and open up a 52-23 lead and never looked back.

The Eagles led 63-37 at the end of the third quarter and then outscored the Flyers 21-14 in the final quarter.
