WILLOW WOOD - And a champion led the way.

Nathan Pinkerman won his fourth 155-pound state champion weightlifting title as he topped 23 Symmes Valley lifters who placed third overall in the Division VI state powerlifting meet held at Kenton High School.

Pinkerman set state records in his classification with a 520 squat and 1,345 weight total. Added to his total were a 310 bench and 510 deadlift.

But Pinkerman wasn't the only Viking to win a state title.

Stephanie Burns won the girls 125-pound division state championship with a 545 total. She had a 90-pound bench press, 215 squat, and 240 deadlift. Burns bench, deadlift, and overall weight total were all new state records.

Erin Martinwas third in the 125 class behind Burns. She had an 80-pound bench, 155 squat, and 200 deadlift for a 435 total. Kayla Bowman was fourth in the unlimited class with a 515 total as she had a 90 bench, 200 squat and 225 deadlift.

Two Vikings finished fourth and another fifth.

Craig Neal was fourth in the 135-pound class with an 820 total. He had a 175 bench, 340 squat and 305 deadlift.

Michael Roth was fourth in the 165 division. His 230 bench, 390 squat and 420 deadlift gave him a 1,040 total.

Joseph Patterson racked up 1,225 pounds to place fifth in the 195-pound class. He had a 270 bench, 440 squat and 515 deadlift.
