A veteran member of the Ironton Board of Education has decided to resign.
Kathy McGinnis, who has served the city system for nearly 12 years, cited family circumstances as her reason for leaving.
"Over the last 15 months, major health problems have plagued my family," McGinnis stated in a letter that was given to The Ironton Tribune. "I have been considering this resignation since early this year, and feel as though, with additional health problems, it is time to follow through."
Ironton Education Association President Mary Ann Philabaun said she regretted McGinnis' decision to resign.
"The teachers have always felt she was very supportive and appreciative of our efforts and was interested in the well-being of the students and achieving the best education possible for them. We will miss working with her and we wish her well. I hope her replacement will be as dedicated," Philabaun said.
School Board President Teresa Parker said the process to replace McGinnis will be discussed at the next school board meeting.
"I hope things improve for her," Parker said. "I wish her well."
The Ironton Tribune contacted Superintendent Dean Nance for his comments. He was not available at press time.
The resignation will not become effective until the next school board meeting.
