Collins qualifies for Public Links national finals

TOLEDO - Justin Collins is on his way to Atlantic City where he'll gladly take a gamble on an even bigger prize.

Collins was second in last Saturday's U.S. Public Links National Championship qualifer at Whiteford Valley Golf Club and will now move on to play next month in the national championship to be held in Atlantic City, N.J.

Kyler Wisenberger of Continental shot a 138 to win the event by just one stroke over Collins. A total of 85 golfers competed for the two qualifying spots.

Collins had rounds of 70-69 for his 139 total.

Collins, 22, will play in the USGA event July 14-18 at Blue Herron Golf Club in Atlantic City.

Collins was redshirted last season but will return for his senior season at Ohio State this fall.

The former four-time All-Ohio first team golfer for the Ironton Fighting Tigers was the state medalist as a junior and runner-up his senior year following a sudden death playoff.
