Ironton High School student Lena Williams has quite a report to share on what she did during her summer vacation.
Williams, who will be a sophomore this fall, is a member of the West Virginia Youth Symphony Orchestra of Charleston and spent 10 days touring Europe with the group. The oboe player is the only member of the orchestra from Ohio.
The orchestra left June 12 and returned June 21. It played concerts in Budapest, Hungry; Banksa Bystrica, Slovakia where they played with the Bella Conservatory Orchestra; and Vienna, Austria. They also traveled to Poland to visit the Auschwitz Concentration Camp, after which they visited the Czech Republic.
What was Williams’ favorite part of the trip? Vienna.
“It was just beautiful,” she said.
Williams also plays clarinet and oboe in the Ironton High School band. She also plays cello in the Marshall Symphony Orchestra. Additionally, she has played the flute and bass guitar in church.
