WINFIELD, W.Va. -- The Fairland Dragons seem to be a bunch of thrill seekers.

In the opening game of the season, the Dragons not only won in overtime, but used a clutch defensive stand to stop the two-point conversion in beating Portsmouth West 20-18.

After losing 13-0 last week to Tolsia, Fairland went back to its heart-stopping ways with an 18-13 win over the Winfield Generals in the final seconds.

Quarterback Michael Hill hit Tyler Bowman with a 1-yard touchdown pass with just 13 seconds remaining to lift the Dragons to the win.

Fairland (2-1) took a 6-0 lead on a 14-yard run by Bowman that capped a 60-yard, six-play drive midway through the second quarter.

For some more excitement, Hill hooked up with Adam Fuller on a 74-yard pass play to the 7-yard line, then threw to C.J. Stewart as time expired to put the Dragons up 12-0 at the half.

Jay Lyons' 14-yard run with 8:15 left in the third quarter and Nathaniel Aylestock's conversion kick cut the Fairland lead to 12-7.

Evan Ashworth recovered a fumble to set up Josh Phelps' 41-yard run with 5:16 remaining that put Winfield ahead 13-12.

That set up Fairland's winning 66-yard, 15-play scoring drive.

Hill finished 13 of 25 passing for 206 yards and an interception. Winfield was just 3 of 12 passing for 35 yards and Sam Huff had an interception for the Dragons.

Bowman led Fairland's running game with 43 yards on 14 carries.
