Ohio University Southern will turn into an art gallery this weekend as local artists and photographers will have the chance to show off their craft Saturday.

The work of photographers 18 and older will be on display at the 29th Annual Ironton Artists Association Fall Art Show.

The show is open to professional and non-professional artists who can enter the following categories: oil; landscapes/seascapes; florals/still life - watercolors; landscapes/seascapes, florals/still life - graphics; color; graphics; black and white - mixed media/miscellaneous - portraits; and special category - umbrellas. Photographers are invited to enter all categories except the portrait and special category ones.

"It's our 29th year, and we're always very successful," said Mary Effie Ford, association member who will have her work on display.

Ford estimated that 60 artists from across the Tri-State area will enter the show. The limit of pieces of art that participants may bring is six with one for the special category. In case of rain, the limit is three pieces, one for the special category.

The entry fee is $12 for non-members of the Ironton Artists Association and $6 for members. All artists must bring wire easels for displays. Setup is from 8:30-11:30 a.m., with judging at noon. Awards will be presented at 3:30 p.m.

Marshall University Art Department Chairwoman Jean Miller will judge the show entries and award Best of Show, Cash Merit, Merit, Honorable Mention, Purchase Awards and Gift Certificates. Miller has exhibited her work regionally, nationally and internationally at sites such as the Millennium Art Center in Washington, D.C., and the Gdansk Academy of Art in Gdansk, Poland.

Also this weekend, WSAZ NewsChannel 3 and Chili Willi's Mexican Cantina will sponsor the 20th Annual Chilifest Saturday in downtown Huntington, W.Va. The event's winner will represent West Virginia at the ICS World's Chili Championship in Reno, Nev. Other events through the day include the "Run Like There's No Tamale" 5-Mile Distance Run sponsored by St. Mary's Medical Center, and awards will be given for Best Booth/Showmanship, Hardest Working Chili Team, People's Choice Award, Best Salsa, as well as the Chili Verde Contest, Hot Pepper Eating Contest, Beer Drinking Contest and Shoot N' Holler Contest.

Chilifest is a charity cook-off benefitting the River Cities Ronald McDonald House. Sample tickets are 50 cents each. The festival begins at 11 a.m. and concludes at 5:30 p.m.

Poage Landing Days in Ashland, Ky. will begin at noon Friday in downtown along Winchester Avenue. Opening ceremonies will begin at 5 p.m. with opening remarks from Mayor Steve Gilmore. Several musicians as well as motorcycle, antique car, tractor and craft shows will be featured at the event. The event will end Sunday with gospel and bluegrass music.
