Chester Short

Chester E. Short, 82, of Kitts Hill, passed away Sunday, June 3, 2012, at his residence. The Lawrence County native was born Feb. 12, 1930, the son of the late Robert and Stella Dennison Short. He is survived by his wife, Alice M. Thomas Short, whom he married in 1964.

Mr. Short worked in the food service department at Marshall University for 25 years and retired in 1982. Also, Mr. Short was a former constable for Lawrence County. He was also known as Golden Eagle on the CB radio and enjoyed hunting and fishing.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by a stepson, Don Jackson; four brothers, Ora, Delbert, Jack and Harlen Short; three sisters, Ruth Robinson, Bertha Lang and Estel Jeffers.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by three stepchildren, Retha Gayle and Bob Johnson of Hamilton, David Owen and Janice Jackson of Indianapolis, Ind., and Rick and Connie Jackson of Kitts Hill; and a host of nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Friday at Phillips Funeral Home with Pastor Chris Johnson officiating. Burial will follow in Langdon Cemetery. Visitation will be 6-8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. To offer condolences to the family, please visit www.phillipsfuneralhome.net.

 

Raymond Heffner

Raymond E. Heffner, 79, of Ironton, passed away Sunday, June 3, 2012, at home after a long illness.

He is survived by his wife, Betty Steed Heffner; daughter, Deborah White of Dixon, Ill.; one stepdaughter, Diana Stamper of Grayson, Ky.; granddaughters, Melissa (Alfredo) Madrigal of Winston-Salem, N.C., Carrie (Adriano) Dacosta of Peoria, Ill.; grandson Jeremy Ross of Ashland, Ky.; eight great grandchildren; one sister Edna (Jim) Duke of Chesapeake; nephew, Jim (Clarissa) Duke of Olmstead, Ky.; and three nieces and one nephew.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Elmo and Ethel Heffner; his first wife Kay Walker Heffner; and daughter Neysa Ross.

He served in the U.S. Army 101st Airborne, Ft. Campbell, Ky., during the Korean War. He worked out of the teamsters Local 505, Huntington, W.Va. He was a talented musician who was well known in the Tri-State and played with many country-western and gospel bands through the years. Funeral service will be conducted 1 p.m. Wednesday at Hall Funeral Home in Proctorville. Burial will follow in Rome Cemetery in Proctorville. Proctorville VFW Post 6878 will conduct military graveside rites. Visitation will be noon-1 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to Hospice. Jerry Carmon

Jerry Ray Carmon, 58, of Pedro, passed away Saturday, June 2, 2012, at his residence.

The Lawrence County native was born Oct. 21, 1953, the son of Wilma Phillip Carmon, who survives, and the late Franklin Ben Carmon. He is also survived by his wife, Bobbie Downer Carmon, whom he married Nov. 5, 2009.

Jerry attended Rock Hill High School and was a former overhead crane operator for Whirlpool for 28 years. He loved riding Harleys, going fishing and hunting with his friends and family. He also loved to play poker, have a hog roast, and going four-wheeler riding with his children. He was of the Baptist faith.

In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by a brother, Adam Carmon, and his mother-in-law, Linda Downer.

In addition to his mother and wife, he is survived by three sons, Jeremey Carmon and Anthony Carmon both of Apoka, Fla., and Dustin Carmon of Pedro; five daughters, Jamie Carmon of Marion, Cassandra Downer, Chelsea Downer, Belinda Downer and Shelby Carmon all of Pedro; three sisters and two brothers-in-law, Rhonda and Benjamin France of Pedro, Bev Carmon of Ocala, Fla., and Rocky and Ray Castner of North Carolina; four brothers and three sisters-in-law, Frank and Kathy Carmon of Marion, Larry and Joy Carmon of Ocala, Fla., Wayne Carmon of Marion, and David Carmon of Mt. Gilead; a sister-in-law, Denise Bright of Chillicothe; his father-in-law, Dell Downer of Cardington; and five grandchildren.

Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Thursday at Phillips Funeral Home with the Rev. Bryon Carmon officiating. Burial will follow in Carmon Family Cemetery. Janey Kingsley

Janet Sanders Kingsley, of Maineville, died on Friday, June 1, 2012.

Born July 18, 1934, to Clyde and Helen Williams Sanders, she joins in death her parents and husband, Manford Jack Kingsley.

She leaves behind daughters Malinda K. Napier and her former spouse Steven Napier and Sandy Gilton and her spouse Eric Wogomon. Also surviving are grandchildren Damen, Maranda, Angelina and Jeremy and six great-grandchildren.

Funeral will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Oswald-Hoskins Funeral Home, Lebanon. Visitation will be 1-2 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Burial will follow in Miami Valley Memorial Gardens.
