COLUMBUS - The Chesapeake Panthers first trip ever to the state golf tournament ended without much fanfare as they were last in the 12-team field of the Division III state golf tournament.

Chesapeake had a two-day total of 701 over the 7,141-yard, par-72 Ohio State University Scarlet Course. The Panthers were three strokes behind Portsmouth Notre Dame.

Lima Central Catholic won the event with a 628 score.

Phillip Butcher shot 79-85=164 to lead the Panthers. Trent Finley was just two strokes behind with a 166 on rounds of 89 and 77.

P.J. Rase shot 93-92 for a 185, Chris Sanford had 90-96 for 186, and Tyler Angle carded 105-100 for a 205 total.

Chesapeake had sent a team sport to a state championship event until the golf team qualified by winning the district title.
