The cliche goes that you shouldn't believe everything you read, and apparently the same is true for everything you see on television.

A report that aired on a local news station Monday stating that an abandoned infant was found in a vehicle off of State Route 775 in Proctorville appears to be a untrue, Sheriff Tim Sexton said.

"As far as we are concerned it is a false report, but we are following up on it to confirm that," he said. "Nobody in law enforcement has seen a baby and no one in children's services has either, as far as I know."

Sexton said that his office received numerous calls from people who were concerned about the situation and offered to adopt the child.

An officer will continue to follow on the investigation to try to determine where the false report came from and why it was made, Sexton said.
