PORTSMOUTH - Once the Symmes Valley Lady Vikings got over an identity crisis, they got past the Portsmouth Notre Dame Lady Titans.

The Lady Vikings fell behind by 11 points the first half, then stormed back the second half to get the Southern Ohio Conference win 41-40 on two free throws by Leslie Floyd with two seconds to play.

"The first half, I didn't know which team showed up. I told the girls at halftime that I didn't know who they were," Lady Vikings coach Lisa Bryant. "But we showed some heart at the end. We had struggled the whole game and made the plays at the end when the game was on the line."Floyd finished with 16 points including 7 of 11 at the foul line. She also had six rebounds and five steals.

"Leslie had a great all-around game. She stepped up in the second half big time. She had some leadership tonight which is what I was really proud of," Bryant said.

Megan Coomes had seven rebounds and Tiffany Bryant grabbed six. Rebecca Capper had three steals.

"Kayla Saunders did well off bench. Tiffany Bryant stepped it up, Brittney Wilson really came in the second half, and Megan Coomes came in and helped on rebound which we needed," coach Bryant said.

Notre Dame (0-4, 0-3) was led by Maddie Rutman with 15 points and Heather Chatfield scored 13.

The Lady Titans jumped in front 15-8 after the first quarter and led 25-14 at the break.

Symmes Valley got within 31-22 at the end of the third quarter, then rallied behind Floyd in the fourth quarter.

Floyd hit a 3-pointer and and three foul shots, but the Titans scored to lead 40-39 with 12 seconds to play. Floyd drove the length of the floor and was fouled with 2.4 seconds to go. She made both shots as the Lady Vikings improved to 3-2 and 2-2 in the SOC.
