Fairland wrestlers 3rd at JC

PAINTSVILLE, Ky. - Tough competition brought out the best in the Fairland Dragons.

Fairland was third in the Johnson Central Invitational round robin tournament Saturday.

The Dragons had one first place finish and six in second place.

Cathy Pierce at 140 pounds was the lone first place finish for the Dragons.

Cameron Clark, Tim Layne, Casey Galligan and Michael Evans all went 4-1 to place second in their weight class. All are now 10-2 on the season except Galligan who suffered his first loss and is now 11-1.

Also finishing second was Daniel Cardwell at 189 pounds.

Sheldon Clark was 5-0 to win the tournament. Johnson Central was second at 4-1, Fairland took third at 3-2, Lawrence County went 2-3, Perry County 1-4 and Prestonsburg 0-5.

"Sheldon Clark was state champs last year and they're always tough. And Johnson Central is pretty good. We had a good effort," Fairland coach William Chambers said.

Here are the Fairland results by weight class with tournament record:

103 pounds - Chuck Wentz, 2-3 , was fourth.

112 - Michael Evans, 4-1, was second.

119 - Justin Hayes 2-3 and was fourth.

125 - Cameron Clark 4-1, second.

130 - Travis Jones, 3-2, was third.

140 - Cathy Pierce, 5-0, was first.

145 - Tim Layne, 4-1, was second.

160 - Casey Galligan, 4-1, was second.

171 - Tyler Grimmett, 3-2, was third.

189 - Daniel Cardwell, 4-1, was second.

215 - Brad Malone, 4-1, was second.

Hwy - David Flannigan, 3-2 , was third.

The Dragons wrestle at Gallipolis Saturday.
