Spence, Spears win River Rat Invitational tournament

The eighth annual Ohio River Rat Invitational Tournament was held Oct. 4-5 at the boat ramp with 48 anglers in 24 boats participating.

Troy Spence and Kevin Spears were the two-day overall winners with eight fish totalling 11 pounds, 8 ounces.

During the tournament, 87 bass were caught for a total of 116 pounds. All the fish were released.

There were 62 fish caught the first game with Randy Thompson and John Caudill landing the Big Bass of the day at 3 pounds, 6 ounces.

Spence and Spears were the first day winners with six fish weighing a combined 9 pounds

and 7.5 ounces.

Billy and Mike Back, a father/son team from Lawrence County, were second on the day with four fish weighing in at 7 pounds, 2.56 ounces. Robert Lindamood and Robert Jones finished third with six fish weighing 7 pounds, 2.08 ounces, and Stewart Nyheart and Roger Miller fourth with five fish totalling 6 pounds, 13 ounces.

The circumstances were more difficult the second day with fewer fish being caught.

Doug Pack and Estel Jordan tied Mike Drummond and Chuck Yaniko for the day's Big Bass prize, each landing a fish weighing 2 pounds, 11.3 ounces.

The two teams also tied for third place on the day.

Rick Lawson and Greg Scythes had four fish weight 6 pounds, 4.4 ounces to claim first place on the day while Bob Gilley and Rodney Chapman finished second with three fish weighing 3 pounds, 6.08 ounces.

Key tournament sponsors were Texas Roadhouse, Route 52 Used Auto Parks, and K. Heaberlin Painting and John Fitzpatrick of Texas Roadhouse.
