PROCTORVILLE - Coach Nathan Speed tried everything. Finally, he snapped his fingers.

After struggling for three quarters, the Fairland Lady Dragons stopped their sleep walking and rallied from as much as a 13-point deficit to beat the Rock Hill Redwomen 54-51 Thursday in an Ohio Valley Conference game.

"We played hard, but we just didn't play with much intensity the first three quarters. They were beating us to every loose ball," Speed said.

"I tried talking to them at halftime, but it didn't seem to work. Then in the fourth quarter, we just snapped out of it."

Fairland entered the fourth quarter trailing 41-32, but Brianna Davis scored eight points to trigger the comeback.

Megan Fisher drove for a runner on the right side to put Fairland ahead 53-51.

On the inbounds play, Kristen Berry got a steal and was fouled. She hit a free throw with five seconds left to make it 54-51.

Fisher then stole the next inbounds pass and ran out the clock.

Rock Hill took a 13-10 lead in the first quarter, as Mandy McKenzie scored five points in the second quarter as the lead grew to 28-21 at the half.

Bobbi Harper had six points in the third quarter to help offset seven by Fisher as the Redwomen opened up a 41-32 lead.

McKenzie had eight more points in the fourth quarter only to have Fairland mount its comeback.

McKenzie finished with a career-high 21 points to lead Rock Hill (3-6, 2-2). Harper added 10 points.

"McKenzie played well. She hit a lot of second shots. And Harper had a nice game," Speed said.

Fairland was 20 of 55 from the field for 36.4 percent. Rock Hill hit 22 of 50 shots for 44 percent.

Speed was especially pleased with his team's seven turnovers.

"The past few games we haven't been turning the ball over and that's been a key for us," Speed said.
