It is double your pleasure at this year’s Spotlight Dinner, Show and Auction brought to you by the Lawrence County Chamber of Commerce May 24.
In addition to guest artist and Broadway star J. Mark McVey, the Ironton High School Varsity Singers will perform. The group is made up of 28 upperclassmen, directed by Kathryn Price. The students will sing medium to difficult musical pieces in four-part harmony.
The singers have studied musical theory, history, appreciation and the art of performance. They have taken their talents to the school and the community.
So far this year, the group has had 31 performances, including two with the Huntington Symphony Orchestra, the Ohio School Boards Association’s annual conference in Columbus, and, for the 12th year in a row, they have sung the National Anthem at a Cincinnati Reds baseball game.
The Varsity Singers is a unique group that exhibits a blend of classwork, extracurricular activity and public relations for Ironton High School.
They have a reputation for excellence and their motto is “We refuse to accept less of ourselves than our capabilities allow.”
The dinner, show and auction will be at the Ironton High School Commons, Gymnasium and Theater/Auditorium. The evening begins with a reception and silent auction at 6 p.m with dinner served at 6:45 p.m.
The Varsity Singers perform at 7:45 p.m. with J. Mark McVey taking the stage at 8:05 p.m. Following the concert, a dessert reception will be offered in the commons area.
Table sponsorships are available. Catering will be from the Bellefonte Country Club. Individual tickets may be purchased for $75 at the Chamber of Commerce office in South Point, River Bank locations in Ironton and Proctorville, and Foodfair locations in Coal Grove, South Point, Proctorville in Ohio and at locations in Huntington and Barboursville.
Funds raised from this event will go to provide scholarships for students at each of the county’s eight high schools and the Collins Career Center.
