Chesapeake cuts Northwest down to size

CHESAPEAKE - Size doesn't matter. At least not to the Chesapeake Panthers.

The Northwest Mohawks had two players standing at 6-foot-7, but the Panthers cut them down to size as they rolled to a 56-34 win Saturday night.

Andy Stapleton scored 19 points and Trent Finley 13 as Chesapeake ran it record to 11-1 on the season.

Northwest, 5-3, was led by 6-7 Cody Shy with 18 points.

Chesapeake was up 15-11 at the end of the first quarter and eased to a 30-20 halftime lead.

The defense clamped down on the Mohawks as Chesapeake outscored Northwest 12-3 to take a comfortable 42-23 lead.

The Panthers return to action Friday when they host Rock Hill in a battle for first place in the Ohio Valley Conference.

Rock Hill is 4-0, one-half game ahead of the Panthers who are 4-1.
