Josh Pancake took care of the offense, Jonathan Williams took care of the pitching and the Ironton Fighting Tigers took care of the Jackson Ironmen.
Pancake went 3-3 with a home run and Williams pitched a 6-hitter as Ironton downed Jackson 9-3 Wednesday in a Southeastern Ohio Athletic League game.
“Pancake really hit the ball well. He’s been on a tear lately,” said Ironton coach Tobey Schreck. “Jonathan threw the pretty well. He started slow but he got stronger as the game went on.”
Kruize Wandling — who went 3-4 — homered to start the game and give Jackson a 1-0 lead.
Ironton (11-6, 5-4) came right back to take the lead as Pancake singled to start a 2-run rally.
Ethan Preston was safe on an error and then Williams and Keith Wetzel followed with RBI singles.
Tyler Anders doubled and Brian Jarvis singled as Jackson tied the game in the top of the second inning.
The Fighting Tigers came right back with two runs in the bottom of the inning.
With one out, Anthony Harper doubled and Pancake singled him home. Preston singled to put runners on the corners and Williams squeezed in a run.
Wandling singled and scored on a throwing error in the third and cut Ironton’s lead to 4-3, but Ironton answered with three runs in the fourth.
Harper reached on an error and Pancake cracked a 2-run homer. Preston singled and came home on a double steal.
Ironton added a pair of insurance runs in the fifth inning.
With one out, Howie Lucas doubled and Harper singled to put runners on the corners. Harper stole second base and a throwing error on the play scored both runners.
Williams retired 13 of the final 16 batters to nail down the complete game win.
