CHESHIRE - Lisa Perry took matters into her own hands.
Perry, Chesapeake's senior point guard, scored a career high 35 points and had an assist on the game-winning basket by Jennifer Rice as the Lady Panthers fought past the River Valley Lady Raiders 53-51 in overtime Thursday.
Perry had seven assists and six steals to go with her 35 points. Alysson Baise had eight rebounds, Noelle Wood seven and Joanna Delimpo six.
Ashley Caldwell scored 17 points and Beth Payne 11 for River Valley (3-13, 2-6).
Perry drained five 3-pointers and scored 17 points, then hit Brittany Boyle with an assist on a 3-pointer as Chesapeake took a 20-11 first quarter lead.
"We did a good job of setting screens for her and getting Lisa the ball. It's a credit to the other girls to recognize she had the hot hand. We were very unselfish," Belville said.
Perry had seven points in the second quarter as the lead went to 29-24 at the break.
River Valley cut the deficit to 40-36 at the end of three quarters and then scored with 15 seconds left to tie the game at 48-48 and force the overtime.
Chesapeake was 4 of 5 from the line down the stretch and 3 of 4 in overtime. The Lady Panthers made 12 of 16 for the game.
"Free throws were huge tonight. Foul shots won the game for us tonight," Belville said.
Perry dished to Jennifer Rice, who hit the winning shot with five seconds left in overtime. River Valley missed two free throw attempts with one second to go.
Chesapeake is now 9-9 overall and 5-2 in the OVC.
