Cold shooting, turnovers plague Flyers

LATHAM - The St. Joseph Flyers are road weary.

The Flyers struggled on the road again as they fell 71-50 Saturday night to the Western Pike Indians.

St. Joseph (3-13) shot just 19 of 62 from the field and committed 29 turnovers.

"The kids play hard, but we just make too many mistakes and we don't play well away from home," Flyers coach Adam Simpson said. "And with such a young team, we don't play well in games on back-to-back nights."

Western (3-13) was led by Jeremy McCleod with 23 points. Michael White added 11 points and Nick Flint 10.

Shawn Hacker had 21 points and 13 rebounds for the Flyers. Alex Swarts scored 13 points to go with seven rebounds. Ryan Schwab had six rebounds and three assists while Jeremy Addis had six rebounds.

McCleod scored seven points in the first quarter to offset five by Swarts as the Indians went up 17-12.

Swarts and Hacker combined for 10 points in the second quarter, but McCleod had eight more as the lead went to 35-25.

St. Joseph was just 4 of 15 from the field in the third quarter as Hacker scored half of the Flyers' eight points. McCleod and Anthony Penwell combined for 12 points and Western was in front 52-33.

The Indians outscored the Flyers by just two points in the fourth quarter as Hacker had 11 points.
