Two Chesapeake men have been arrested and charged with the burglary of a Scottown residence that occurred late last month.

Lawrence County Sheriff's Office deputies arrested Jeremy Slone, 21, of 1110 North Huntington Heights Drive, and Belbert B. Ferguson, 19, of 167 Willow St., for the incident that happened at 834 Reece Hill-Middle Paddy Road during the afternoon hours of Jan. 30.

Sheriff Tim Sexton said deputies received a break in the case

when witnesses were able to provide a description of the vehicle seen in the area when the house was burglarized. Following up on these leads led deputies to Slone and Ferguson.

"We appreciate very much the witnesses' information and willingness to cooperate in this investigation," Sexton said. "Many times, the slightest lead does prove invaluable to the deputies and detectives investigating these crimes."

The property removed from the residence has been returned to the owner.

Sexton said he encourages residents to report suspicious activity, people or vehicles they may see in their neighborhood. He said they should also write down a description, the license plate number and direction of travel for the vehicles.

"Do not think suspicious activity could not be occurring in broad daylight …," Sexton said. "National statistics indicate approximately 60 percent of home burglaries occur during the daytime hours."

The Sheriff's Office is also seeking information in another break-in that occurred Jan. 29 at a residence at the intersection of Wolfe Creek and Slate Run Road off State Route 775. Detectives have recovered some property believed to have been stolen from the residence, but have not spoken to the owner yet. Some of the property recovered includes a tree stand, a computer printer and foot warmers.
