COAL GROVE - A
residence
at 900 Marion Pike sustained damage Friday after a kitchen fire.
The house is owned by Donald Klaiber.
According to Gary Sherman, chief of the Coal Grove Volunteer Fire Department, the fire started just before
5 p.m. when one of the house's occupants left food cooking on the stove and forgot to take it off the burner. Firefighters were able to contain the blaze to the kitchen.
Sherman said significant damage was sustained to the kitchen and smoke damage through the rest of the house.
Nobody was injured, but a dog that was in a portable kennel upstairs was exposed to a lot of smoke, Sherman said. The dog was given oxygen at the scene and "appeared to be OK," according to Sherman.
The Perry Township Volunteer Fire Department provided mutual aid.
