PEDRO - Aaron Apt saved the Coal Grove Hornets in grand fashion.

Trailing by two runs with two outs in the seventh inning, Apt unloaded a grand slam home run that rallied the Hornets past the Rock Hill Redmen 5-3 Wednesday in an Ohio Valley Conference game.

"This game was like Monday, only this time we got a clutch hit and we were able to win," Hornets coach John Jones said.

Luke Tackett singled and Tommy Pemberton reached on an error to begin the seventh. Two outs later, Patrick Roush got a base hit to load the bases. Apt then hit the first pitch for a grand slam home run and erased a 3-1 deficit.

Rock Hill had taken a 1-0 lead in the third inning when T.J. Blagg got a lead off double and scored when Aaron Miller reached on an error.

Coal Grove tied the game in the fourth inning when Nick Bazell was safe on an error, Roush walked, Apt singled to load the bases, and Andrew Johnson walked to force home Bazell.

The Redmen evened the scored in their half of the inning. Nathan Wagner walked, stole second, moved up on a passed ball, and scored on a squeeze bunt by Matt McFann.

Justin Lavender hit a solo home run in the fifth inning that gave Rock Hill a 3-1 lead.

Randy Wise got the win with relief help from Pemberton.

"Randy pitched a good game. His ball moves a lot," Jones said.

Josh Moore suffered the loss. Redmen coach Barry Litteral said Moore deserved a better fate.

"It was just one of those games. (Moore) made just one bad pitch if you would even call it a bad pitch," Litteral said.

Apt was 3-4 as Coal Grove collected seven hits. Tackett was 2-4.
