AID — When the going got tough, the Symmes Valley Lady Vikings got going.

Seniors Katie Hill and Kari Brumbaugh and their teammates used a clutch performance to post an 8-7 win in eight innings over the Eastern Lady Eagles on Senior Night Thursday.

“The girls really clutched up. It was a good senior night,” said Lady Vikings’ coach Jeff “Odie” Estep.

The Lady Vikings trailed 6-5 in the bottom of the seventh inning. They had two outs when Abby Walden singled, Amy Tseng was hit by a pitch, a wild pitch moved them up a base and Hannan Roach singled in the tying run.

The Lady Eagles went up 7-6 in the top of the eighth but the Lady Vikings scored two in the bottom of the inning.

Hill walked, Autum Keathley reached on a throwing error and Cheianne Hively was safe on an error as the tying run scored. Brenna Morris then grounded out as the winning run scored.

Symmes Valley took a 1-0 lead in the first on a walk to Brumbaugh who stole second base and scored when Hill reached on an error.

Eastern led 3-1 when the Lady Vikings tied the game in the bottom of the third.

Hannah Maynard singled and scored on Hill’s double. Keathley followed with an RBI single.

The Lady Vikings went up 5-3 in the fifth when Hill reached on an error, Keathley walked, Hively had an RBI single and Morris grounded out to drive in a run.

Maynard got the win as she gave up just four hits, fanned five and walked four. Morris was 2-5 as the Lady Vikings had eight hits.

Symmes Valley plays at Sciotoville East on Friday.
