SOUTH POINT — Some South Point natives who are rising stars on the national music stage are coming home Saturday to perform a benefit concert for the South Point High School Band of Gold.
Rick Huckaby will perform as both a solo performer and part of the band The Beagles. Joining them will be another SP alum, Barry Frazee as well as Julie Westlake.
The event is sponsored by the South Point High School Class of 1969.
“We are one of the most active classes South Point has had,” explained class vice president Doug Conley. “We give to the band every year and to different things and we heard the band needs new uniforms. We know that the kids, to raise that much money, needed more than bake sales and car washes.”
Conley thanked the performers for coming to play the benefit concert when they could be somewhere else making money for themselves.
The concert will be 7 p.m. at the old South Point High School. Tickets are $20 and are available at the Garage Door Plus in South Point, The Printing Express in Ironton, Route 60 Music in Barboursville, W.Va., Mack and Dave’s in Huntington, W.Va., and Music Box Express in Ashland, Ky.
The band needs to raise approximately $14,000 for the new uniforms.
