CINCINNATI (AP) - The Reds placed outfielder Austin Kearns on the 15-day disabled list Wednesday and promoted outfielder Jacob Cruz to take his roster spot.

Kearns suffered a broken left forearm when he was hit by a pitch Monday night in Pittsburgh. He'll be examined again on Monday, giving the Reds a better idea of how many weeks he'll be sidelined.

Cruz, 31, signed a minor league contract as a free agent last November.

Cruz hit .315 for Triple-A Louisville in 17 games this season.

Cruz, who bats and throws left-handed, also has played for San Francisco, Cleveland, Colorado and Detroit. His career batting average is .248.
