HUNTINGTON, W.Va. -- The Heritage Farm Museum in the Harveytown section of the city is always a colorful place, with its displays

steam engines, one-room school houses and other Appalachian treasures.

But the first Saturday in May,

those

nods to the past spring to life during the annual Heritage Farm Festival.

The festival brings dozens of artists, craftsmen and historians to the farm to showcase talents that are scarcely displayed these days.

"We have blacksmiths and people making brooms, musicians playing dulcimers, potters and people caning chairs. We'll have quilters and spinners and weavers," museum founder A. Michael Perry said. "We have just a lot of things that represent our heritage."

The festival is from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m., rain or shine, Perry said.
