WESTWOOD, Ky. - This one was just a little too tight.

In another close game, the South Point Pointers lost 4-3 to the Fairview Eagles on a squeeze play in the eighth inning.

"That was a tough loss," Pointers coach Kevin Milem said. "Seth (Craft) pitched out of some tough jams and Adam (McCarty) pitched out of some tough spots, too.

"But being in tight games will help us finish up the conference and in the sectional tournament."

South Point (8-10) took a 1-0 lead in the second inning when Tyler Staton tripled and Calvin Robinson reached on an error.

Robinson belted a two-out, 3-2 pitch for a solo home run in the top of the fourth inning to make it 2-0, but Fairview tied the game in the bottom of the inning.

Jeff Elswick singled, Matt Williams walked and Phillip Meeks singled home both runners.

Both teams scored in the sixth inning.

Anthony Ross walked to start the Pointers half of the inning. Zane Joy singled and Ross came home when Wes Patterson reached on an outfield error.

The Eagles made it 3-3 when Williams walked, moved up on a fielder's choice, and scored on a hit by Jeremy Bayless.

Fairview won the game with a run in the bottom of the eighth inning.

Bayless singled, stole second, and Meeks was intentionally walked. The runners moved up on a fly out and Thompson was intentionally walked to load the bases. Brandlee Jones put down a squeeze bunt and Bayless ran over Kinney to score the winning run.

"We made a good play on the bunt, but they managed to get the run across. It's tough to lose on a play like that," Milem said.

Joy was 2-4 to lead the Pointers offense. Adam McCarty suffered the loss as he struck out two and walked four, two intentionally.
