CHILLICOTHE - Josh Sands has had an outstanding high school baseball career. He put the exclamation point on it Thursday night.
The Ironton Fighting Tigers senior pitcher and infielder played for the Division III-IV East team in the Southeast Ohio District Baseball Coaches Association All-Star Game at Veterans Stadium.
Although the East lost 9-6 and had just four hits, Sands had the team's top performance and was voted the East's Most Valuable Player.
Sands started on the mound for the East and pitched two innings. He did not allow a run and gave up just one hit, did not walk a batter and struck out three.
Other area players in the game included Tommy Pemberton of Coal Grove, Seth Craft of South Point and Zacc Russell of Fairland.
Ironton's Kevin Williams also was voted to the all-district game but did not play due to an ankle injury sustained in the district semifinals.
