COAL GROVE - A traffic stop Thursday night has led the the arrests of two Scioto County people and the recovery of approximately 4 pounds of marijuana.
Authorities are still trying to determine the identity of one of the passengers.
Renae L. Bateman, 29, of Portsmouth, was charged with possession of marijuana. The driver of the car,
whose name was not available from the Coal Grove Police Department, was charged with DUS.
Officer Luke Jenkins said that just before midnight, he noticed the car traveling in the westbound lanes of U.S. 52 near the Ashland Coal Grove bridges. The car was traveling with a flat tire. A quick check revealed fictitious plates as well.
A search of the car led to the discovery of the marijuana. It also produced a puzzle for Jenkins: who is the mystery passenger? One of the four people in the car allegedly attempted to conceal his identity by giving several false names and other incorrect information.
"We're waiting on his fingerprints to get back from the FBI Fingerprint Center," Jenkins said. "I have no way right now of proving exactly who he is."
