The Rock Hill school district has lost another of its administrators.

Dr. Don Washburn, who was hired only eight months ago as an assistant superintendent, tendered his resignation, effective last Thursday.

"I felt it was time for me to move, on," Washburn said. "You need a central office staff that works together and I didn't think I was the kind of person they were looking for."

Washburn said it was a difficult decision to leave, and said in the eight months he was on the job, he had developed a very positive impression of the district's teachers, who are doing the best they can under often strained circumstances.

"I have a tremendous respect for them," Washburn said. "I know that academically they aren't where they want to be but they're doing an outstanding job. … I think Rock Hill has the finest teachers."

The feeling was reciprocated by Rock Hill Middle School Principal Mick Hairston, who called Washburn "a hard worker and a good guy."

"He is one of the most knowledgeable curriculum people

I have ever met and I've been around long enough that this puts him in fast company because I've worked with people like Brenda Haas and Sam Hall. … But the main thing is, he got results. He worked with the staff here at the middle school, and it was a combined effort and he got results. Everyone here hated to see him go."

Washburn has accepted a job at the South Central Educational Service Center that serves Scioto and two other counties.
