Five-year-old Emily Litton, of Ironton, waited in line Saturday morning for her chance to register for the Central Christian Church Easter Egg Hunt.

“We came last year and she liked it a lot,” her mom, Paula said.

Knowing what to expect this year, Emily clearly had her eyes on the prize.

“I’m going to get 20 eggs,” she said. When the time came, Emily walked away with 10 eggs but also a smile.Some of those eggs were filled with goodies.

A few hundred children and their parents turned out for the annual event at the church. In addition to the 2,000 hidden eggs, door prizes, inflatables and snacks, the kids were treated to something else: The part of Easter that doesn’t deal with eggs and bunnies.

Youth minister T.J. Parnell began the event by reading from Matthew 13:44, the passage of scripture in which Jesus Christ describes the Kingdom of Heaven as a treasure hidden in a field.

Those who find the hidden treasure find the way to heaven. He invited the participants to church today.

The Central Christian hunt was one of several Saturday. The Girl Scout Troop 1269 and the Veterans of Foreign Wars 8850 Ladies’ Auxiliary hosted an egg hunt at Paul Porter Park, in Coal Grove; Russell, Ky., hosted an Easter egg hunt in its city park and the annual egg hunt at the Lawrence County Fairgrounds in Proctorville also provided adventure for area children.
